Mr. Dika's Classroom
Watch me teach!
I've been teaching English at middle school and high school at various levels for over 13 years. I have taught Key Stage 3 English, IGCSE English First Language and IGCSE English Second Language.
In this video, I taught a group of grade 10 students who were in their final year before taking their English IGCSE First Language examinations.

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" - Benjamin Franklin
I believe learning is the product of the activities that the students are involved in. I like to assign my students in pods where they can collaborate in groups and learn from each other. I involve them when working on display boards and decorating the room.

Grade 8 Poetry Display
Macbeth Shadow Puppet Show
One of the projects that I set to my Grade 7 students is to perform a shadow puppet performance. Shadow puppets are essential parts in Balinese culture and Balinese shadow puppet shows are usually based on Hindus myths and lores.
In this project, students work in groups and dramatise scenes from Macbeth which is a part of Grade 7 Shakespearean study. I find using literature to teach language to be more engaging and stimulating. Students not only learn the content but also practice their language skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Camp Fire Story Telling
One of the units for Grade 8 students is Gothic Writing, where students practice their narrative and descriptive writing in order to build suspense in their writing.
In the final stage, students wrote their own scary story using descriptions and all other writing skills that they learned. We invited the Grade 6 students for a camp fire story telling session.

Student's reading challenge response
Reading Lessons
Reading plays an essential part in language learning. I encourage, model and monitor reading to all my students.
Once a week, I take my students to the school library to have a reading session where I recommend books, monitor students' reading progress through the Accelerated Reader and give students time to read independently

Students' reading challenge responses
